Terms of Service

Last updated: March 2026  ·  Effective for all beta users

Beta service notice: Chaptered is currently in private beta. These terms govern your use of the beta service. By submitting the creator questionnaire or making a payment, you agree to these terms.

1 What Chaptered is

Chaptered is a service that helps creators transform their existing written content — newsletters, blog posts, essays, and other written material — into a structured, publish-ready book draft.

The service involves artificial intelligence. Chaptered uses large language models (LLMs), specifically Anthropic's Claude, to analyze your content, identify themes, propose chapter structures, and generate prose for your book draft. By using Chaptered, you acknowledge and consent to your content being processed by AI for this purpose.

Your final book draft is AI-assisted, not fully AI-generated. Claude works from your own words, ideas, and voice. You review, edit, and approve everything before publishing.

2 Use of AI and third-party services

To deliver the service, Chaptered sends your content to the following third-party provider:

We do not use any other AI provider to process your content. We do not send your content to OpenAI, Google, or any other AI company.

We also use the following tools internally to manage your project:

None of these services receive your raw content beyond what is operationally necessary.

3 Intellectual property and ownership

Your original content is yours. You retain full copyright and ownership over all content you share with Chaptered — your posts, essays, newsletters, and any other writing you provide.

Your book draft is yours. The book draft Chaptered produces using your content is also your intellectual property. Chaptered claims no ownership, license, co-authorship credit, or any other right over the final output or any intermediate drafts.

By sharing your content with us, you grant Chaptered a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to access and process your content solely for the purpose of producing your book draft. This license expires when your project is complete or when you request deletion.

You confirm that you own or have the rights to the content you share with us, and that sharing it with Chaptered does not violate any third-party rights or agreements (e.g., exclusivity agreements with publishers or platforms).

4 Beta service — limitations and expectations

Chaptered is in private beta. This means:

We are committed to delivering a high-quality draft on the timelines communicated to you. If we fail to meet agreed timelines for reasons within our control, we'll work with you on a resolution — including a partial or full refund if appropriate.

5 Payment and refunds

During the beta, pricing is as communicated directly to you at the time of purchase. Current beta pricing is $49 (founding beta rate).

Payments are processed via Stripe. Chaptered does not store your payment details.

6 Your data and content

How we handle your content is described in detail in our Content Protection page. The key commitments:

7 Limitation of liability

Chaptered provides a creative drafting service. We are not a legal, publishing, or literary agency. We make no representations about the commercial viability, publishability, or reception of any book draft we produce.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Chaptered's total liability for any claim arising from use of the service is limited to the amount you paid for the specific project in question.

We are not liable for: loss of revenue or profits you expected from publishing your book; decisions made by publishers, agents, or platforms regarding content we helped draft; or any indirect, consequential, or incidental damages.

8 Acceptable use

You agree not to use Chaptered to produce content that:

We reserve the right to decline or terminate a project if we determine, in good faith, that it would violate these terms.

9 Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the service evolves. For active beta projects, any material changes to terms that affect your project will be communicated to you by email before taking effect. Continued use of the service after notice constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

For users who have not yet started a project, the terms in effect at the time of payment apply.

10 Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which Chaptered operates. Any disputes will be resolved in good faith through direct communication first. If a dispute cannot be resolved informally, it shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of the applicable jurisdiction.

If you are a consumer in the EU or UK, you retain any statutory rights that cannot be waived by contract.
